Rob Manning
Director - RAN/Midwife
I am a Hospital trained Nurse (1983-1986) in Adelaide South Australia. I loved and value my training very much and of course it was the foundation of who I am today as a Nurse. My Grad year was in Perth (Fremantle hospital) and two years later I did my Midwifery (again Hospital based) at King Edward Memorial Hospital. I worked as a Midwife until 1992 and it was from then that I started my long-term travel Nursing career when I moved to a small WA town for two years and loved it. I had my first Remote Area Nurse (RAN) position in 1994 around Cape York (QLD) and Torres Straits (2 years). Most of my RAN work over the last 15 years has been throughout the NT.
I have lived in NSW since 1996 and travel from there, and for the last perhaps 3 years I have also been working Western NSW MPS sites. Again, I love small hospitals and MPS. My skills and experience as a RAN have helped me ten-fold to have the confidence to operate as the senior nurse in small hospitals where you look after ED and help on the ward/aged care when you can. You usually only have one other Nurse (EN/AIN) with you. ED experience and triage ability/qualifications are essential as well as a mature disposition.
For those that may not be aware, the skills and extra studies/courses to be a RAN are many, but this is all for good reason. I highly recommend becoming or working as a RAN. I’m also more than happy to discuss over the phone (or face to face if you live nearby) as this can be a long conversation. The skills and experiences you gain as a RAN are phenomenal and very highly rated.
Why did I start my own health solutions/recruitment agency?
To be honest, over the last few years I have witnessed first – hand, and heard countless stories of dis-satisfaction and confusion amongst nurses regarding how they are treated, communicated to and prepared for their contract. I have been a Nurse for a long time, so I can safely say that I have “walked the walk” so I can “talk the talk”. Just these few things alone started me thinking seriously about how I could do better for the nurses that absolutely deserve so much more.
So in short …. As the Director of Manageability Healthcare Solutions, I know nursing, I know health services (rural, remote, metropolitan) and I will be available to anyone who would like to chat clinically or about the placements on offer. I can offer suggestions and guidance if you are a little unsure about something and I will certainly be available to you if you are having any issues, troubles or doubts wherever you may be placed. I am especially available if you would like to tell me what a great job you think we are doing.

A day in the life…
Working as a Remote Area Nurse (RAN) is one of the most rewarding, challenging, and uniquely vital roles within healthcare. Often stationed in some of the most isolated and breathtakingly beautiful parts of the country, RANs are more than just nurses—they are autonomous clinicians, first responders, health educators, and often the only consistent healthcare provider for entire communities.
